Residents prepare for weekend freeway closure
Imagine living on a street and heavy traffic from the freeway is going through your neighborhood.
The I-94 project will divert some of this weekend's traffic into neighborhoods, like the one Cathy Faust lives in.
"I just think the traffic that's coming down Bluemound and Greenfield Road is going to slow things down. I'm sure it's going to be a mess until they open up the freeway again," she said.
Starting at 11 p.m. Friday, I-94 in both directions will close at highway 100, and divert more cars than normal through Cathy’s neck of the woods. She said she is prepared to deal with it.
“The construction right here is over with,” explains Faust. “They've turned this into a Cul-de-sac and put up the bridge and everything," she said. "So we don't have construction right here."
Still, she said she's ready for a nosier than normal weekend. But she doesn't see that as a bad thing.
"It’s a sign of progress. You just have to live with it till it's through," adds Faust.
DOT officials suggest drivers count on an extra 10 to 15 minutes to get through the interchange this weekend.
