Red Arrow Park shooting under review
MILWAUKEE - Alderwoman Milele Coggs says more police officers need special training to deal with people who are mentally ill.
Ald. Coggs and other members of the Common Council's Public Safety Committee received an update Thursday on the deadly police shooting at Red Arrow Park last month.
MPD stated just 20 percent of the force have received special "Crisis Intervention Training" which helps Police Officers deal with people who suffer from mental illness.
Coggs said more Officers need the special training.
"Being trained on how to deal with people who may have mental illness is critically important." Coggs said.
The Executive Director of The Fire and Police Commission stated a through investigation into the deadly shooting is underway.
