Racine police investigating rash of robberies
RACINE – Police are trying to catch the criminals responsible for more than a dozen robberies in the last month and a half.
Rojo’s Pub on Yout Street is the latest target. Sunday, a masked man barged into the bar with his gun drawn, demanding cash.
"It came so fast,” explained owner Joe Vlasak.
“They were in and out in a matter of 60 seconds, and it's over with. Shot a hole up through the roof."
A single bullet hole in the bar’s ceiling vent documents the exchange.
"All of a sudden, I heard what I knew was a gunshot and immediately ran to the window and saw people leaving the bar, running in different directions, screaming,” said Dan Dearborn, who lives upstairs.
Rojo's is just one site of 13 robberies since the beginning of March. Another bar, Roger's Place, was hit three times. Twice in a week.
Other businesses, like video and floral stores, were targeted by criminals.
Racine police tell TODAY’S TMJ4 this spike in crime is troubling. Investigators are working to solve these cases, but they're leaning on the public for help.
"If they have home surveillance systems that we don't know about, we'd to hear from them love for them so they could come forward and we could review it," said Sgt. Jessie Metoyer.
If you have any information that could help authorities, call the Racine Police Department.
