Proposed bill would ban cell phone use for drivers in certain areas
MADISON – A legislative committee will take up a proposed bill Wednesday that would ban cell phone use for drivers in construction zones.
The Wisconsin State Patrol has warned that construction zones are a dangerous place for drivers to be on the phone.
“With the narrow lanes and the workers, at 55 or 65 mph it only takes a second for a distracted driver using a phone to cause a property damage crash, an injury crash, or even worse—a fatal crash,” cautioned State Trooper Kevin Kinderman.
If the bill is approved, penalties would start at a $20 fine.
