Prior Ryan challenger plans 'announcement rally'
KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- The Democrat who failed to unseat Rep. Paul Ryan last year is planning an "announcement rally" at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Rob Zerban has formed a congressional exploratory committee but he hasn't formally announced his candidacy. Committee coordinator Al Benninghoff says the Oct. 26 event is being billed as an "announcement rally" but he didn't have further details.
Benninghoff's comments Monday come the same day another Democrat announced his intention to challenge Ryan.
Amar Kaleka is the son of the Sikh temple president who was killed along with five others in a shooting rampage at their Milwaukee-area temple. The 35-year-old says he's running to restore accountability to Congress.
Benninghoff welcomed Kaleka's announcement, saying that's what the primary process is for.
Zerban is a former Kenosha County board member.
