Preparations underway for soccer match at Miller Park
MILWAUKEE-- While the Brewers take a break for the All-Star game, grounds crews at Miller Park are busy prepping the stadium for its first soccer match.
Fresh off World Cup fever, the baseball diamond will transform into a soccer field Wednesday night when the Mexican soccer club Chivas takes on the English club Swansea.
About 30,000 people are expected to attend, with tickets being sold to people in nearly 30 states.
Grounds crews said the transition is going smoothly with the clock counting down.
"It's just like any extra event we bring on to the field here," said Michael Boettcher, the Brewers' grounds director. "Last summer we experienced concerts, before we've experienced luncheons. It's just a challenge we look at. We try to come up with the best solution try to make sure the transformation goes well."
Crews expect to have everything ready to go early this afternoon, but said the biggest concern is preserving the existing field for when the Brewers return.
