Preparations underway for USS Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE -- Dignitaries including the governor, mayor and county executive were on hand at Discovery World Tuesday morning to kick off a year-long celebration and preparation for the USS Milwaukee.
While the combat ship won't be commissioned until spring 2015, it will be forward-deployed to Singapore and will operate throughout the Western Pacific. The ship will be outfitted with updated technology - to hunt for submarines, underwater mines and any other surface threats.
The ship is 390 feet long and will be capable of speeds up to 40 knots - much faster than your average destroyer. Samara Sodos explains.
