Kenosha police say Steve Zelich told them he killed Jenny Gamez at a hotel more than a year ago, before it was being renovated into a Comfort Inn.

Detectives have been checking records at the hotel off of I-94, and are trying to review computer information and airline records to confirm the meeting between the two ever took place. Until they can confirm any part of Zelich's story that he killed her, they cannot file murder charges.

On Monday, investigators in Walworth County confirmed Jenny Gamez's body was stuffed in a suitcase along a rural road in the Town of Geneva. Weeks earlier, a Minnesota woman was identified as the other victim in the other suitcase left behind.

"When the detective came to talk to us, we didn't want to believe it was Jenny," said Kirk Troute, Gamez's father.

Gamez was from a town in southwest Oregon. In late 2012, she told her family she was moving which prevented her family from reporting her missing.

"Jenny did have a big heart, and her intentions were in a good place."
