Police uncover child abuse at scene of house fire
MILWAUKEE - A 25-year-old man was arrested Monday for physical abuse of a child, after police responded to a burning duplex on the city's south side.
Three children were taken from the structure on the 2400 block of W. Maple St. to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, according to a spokesperson for the Milwaukee Police Department. Neither the children's injuries nor the suspected child abuse were connected to the fire, according to the spokesman.
The first fire call came in at 7:41 a.m. with the fire reported under control 13 minutes later. Fire officials on scene believed the flames began in the building's attic, but said the exact cause was still under investigation.
No injuries resulted from the fire.
Three families were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross was helping them with shelter and financial assistance.
