BROOKFIELD - Police are reminding residents to lock their doors and windows after a daring burglary near Brookfield Road and West Capitol Drive Thursday night.

Detectives believe the thieves crept into the home through an unlocked patio door or window. They stole cash, credit cards and jewelry while a woman and child were asleep.

"There are those people that no matter if you lock your house or what you do that are bound and determined, but for the most part I think crimes are crimes of opportunity." said Ron Goeden.

The Waukesha County man isn't sure which of his neighbors were burglarized, but he said he always takes precautions. He said he always keeps his home and car locked even during the daytime.

Police say there was a similar burglary in Menominee Falls last weekend. They aren't sure right now if the two crimes are connected.
