KENOSHA - People worried about the danger of melting snow refreezing overnight have created a rush to clear standing water fast.

The ice is so thick in some areas, people had to take a chisel to clear storm drains to keep water from ponding in front of their homes.

"We had a problem finding the storm drain this morning, but finally we uncovered it." said Sandy Puzerewski.

Officials say it's important to get salt down before the mercury dips overnight to prevent dangerous conditions on sidewalks and driveways.
