Parking squeeze making money tight for downtown workers
MILWAUKEE - When construction season and festival season converge this summer, parking in the Third Ward will become even more competitive than usual.
That means price is about to double for people like Lynn Sabel who pay for a monthly reserved parking spot.
The lot where he parks is about to jump to $90 a month, double where it was when he started.
"We're limited for parking down here, so they're going to take what they can get," Sabel said.
Other lots are telling people with monthly parking contracts to go somewhere else during Summerfest.
Several people who have unreserved monthly spots in CPS Parking lots wrote TODAY'S TMJ4 with complaints about a letter from the parking company. The letter said their usual lot would be off-limits during the run of Summerfest, and they would have to find somewhere else to park.
On top of that, CPS Parking still expects those monthly contract holders to pay the full price.
"One of the reasons you choose monthly parking is so you can come down here and not have to worry about some of the other events and special events that go on downtown," said Ben, a CPS Parking customer.
A call to CPS Parking was not returned.
