BARRON, Wis. (AP) -- A shooting review panel has cleared two Barron County sheriff's deputies who exchanged gunfire with a fleeing suspect.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday that Capt. Ron Baures and Sgt. Tim Prytz were both justified in using deadly force.

Baures, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, and Prytz, a 28-year veteran, were involved in a shootout with a suspect at the end of a 10-mile chase on June 3.

A squad car forced the suspect's car into a ditch, and the driver shot at the deputies. The deputies returned fire, but no one was struck.

Deputy Jeff Wolfe, whose squad car was struck by bullets fired by the suspect, also was cleared to return to work.

The chase ended in Dunn County. The suspect remains in the Dunn County Jail.
