Online applications only for unemployment benefits
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state will soon be in compliance with the federal government's push to make the newly unemployed file for benefits online.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development says that beginning Oct. 13 new applicants for unemployment insurance will have to register online through the Job Center of Wisconsin.
Deputy secretary John Fandrich says the regulation has been around for many years, but Wisconsin hasn't enforced it because the department wanted to make sure the technology was in place and staff were properly trained.
Applicants will be asked a series of questions to build their resume. Fandrich tells Wisconsin Public Radio News employers will have access to that resume and hopefully applicants will be matched with a job sooner.
