RACINE -- Racine County sheriff's deputies said speed and alcohol may have a played a role in a snowmobile crash Thursday night.

A man crashed into a tree near state highways 11 and 75 on a marked snowmobile trail around 11: 30 p.m., according to a release. Wearing a helmet, he was found unconscious with serious head injuries. He was transported via flight for life to Froedtert hospital.

Initial reports show the man missed a curve in the trail. He subsequently went off the trail and was ejected from the snowmobile into a tree line, the release said.
