MILWAUKEE - Newsradio 620 WTMJ has been honored with a national Edward R. Murrow Award, the Radio Television Digital News Association announced Wednesday.

Erik Bilstad, WTMJ's Executive Producer of News, received the award in the "Feature Reporting - Large Market Radio" category for his coverage of some young World War II historians.

"Erik Bilstad covered middle school students from Hartland documenting the experiences of Holocaust survivors and World War II veterans," explained Tom Langmyer, Vice President and General Manager for Journal Broadcast Group's Milwaukee Radio Operations. "The students uncovered stories that even the vets' families had never heard."

"In one case, a veteran died just days after revealing some of his experiences to the students.  Had it not been for these interested and engaged young people, his family would never have learned of his tale."

Both Newsradio 620 WTMJ and TODAY'S TMJ4 were 2014 recipients of regional Edward R. Murrow Awards earlier this year.
