New design for 'Couture' project offers streetcar stop, rooftop park
MILWAUKEE - We're getting a look at plans for a new high-rise on Milwaukee's lakefront.
The proposed Couture tower will be 44 stories high, one of the tallest buildings in Wisconsin. It will replace the downtown transit center at Lincoln Memorial Drive and East Michigan Street.
The project has a price tag of $122 million. The site covers more than two acres on the lakefront.
Plans unveiled Wednesday show more public space, including a bus and streetcar stop, as well as a park on top of a parking structure.
It will also include restaurants and retail space. Plans call for 300 apartments, costing $2,300 per month. The Milwaukee County Board still has to approve plans to sell the property.
