Muskego woman delivers baby by herself
MUSKEGO - Baby Claire decided to arrive a little faster than her family had planned. But that was no match for her Muskego mom and dad, who had a little extra help.
The Schaefers are now a family of five, after an all out blitz to bring baby Claire into the world.
Will Schaefer was in the car Tuesday morning, while his wife Laura was in labor at their Muskego home. That's when Will called 911.
911: I want you to let me know when you get in the house and when you get to your wife. I'm going to tell you exactly what to do OK?
Dispatcher Jeff Poff was on the line. Will was in such a rush to get home, he didn't even know how far away he was.
Will: I probably was overly optimistic saying two blocks. It's probably more like half a mile.
911: No problem. That's alright, sir.
What felt like a lifetime later, Will was home.
Will: I'm running inside. OK, I'm with my wife.
911: You're with her now?
Will: And we have a little baby!
Baby Claire had already been born.
Will: The baby is crying!
911: The baby's crying? OK.
Jeff talked Will through cleaning up the baby and tying off the umbilical cord. Will and his wife even enjoyed a laugh when EMTs arrived.
Will: It doesn't get more natural than that, huh!
A team effort to introduce this little tyke to her family.
911: "When you have an outcome like this and bringing life in the world it's amazing. It's probably one of the best feelings in the world."
Will: "My wife and I prayed so much leading up to this time and now finally that our daughter is born we're just so thankful to God that he's given us that opportunity."
