Multiple new Cryptosporidium cases confirmed

  • Cryptosporidiosis cases reported in southeastern Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE - The North Shore Health Department confirmed two new cases of the Cryptosporidium virus on Friday, bringing the total within their jurisdiction to 17.

Additionally, the city of Milwaukee Health Department is currently aware of eight confirmed cases within the city. Of those cases, three are related to the North Shore outbreak, while the other five are believed to have been contracted through international travel.

"We do expect to see an increase in the number of Crypto cases as a result of person-to-person contact," said Jamie Berg with the North Shore Health Department.

Ozaukee County's number is now at one confirmed and three probably cases.

The North Shore Water Commission and Treatment Plant has confirmed that the drinking water is safe.
