Milwaukee kicks off St. Patrick's Day celebrations
MILWAUKEE -- The Saint Patrick’s Day celebration kicked off Saturday in downtown Milwaukee.
It's a celebration of all things Irish! For some, it's not just a parade. It’s also a family reunion.
"Our family is amazing,” says parade-goer Kieran O’Brien. “We get to get together every year. We do Irish Fest and St. Paddy's day. It’s just about being together."
Others just wanted to celebrate the spirit of the parade.
"I am not Irish at all,” says Paul Ruppel of Green Bay. “But I enjoy Irish culture very much.”
There was plenty of that - from bagpipes, Irish dancers, to TODAY’S TMJ4 news anchor, Mike Jacobs!
For many of the kids, it was their first time attending.
"I thought it'd be really fun to see all the cool stuff and see what it would be about," says eight year old Marisa Kane.
Her dad's been here before, but he's looking forward to sharing it with her.
"I hope it's a warm experience with more sun,” says her dad Sean Kane. “But yeah, it’s pretty cool doing things like this with her."
Up to fifty thousand people have attended the parade in years past.
