MILWAUKEE – A Milwaukee County employee who admitted to stealing money on the job will now face charges.
Initially, the District Attorney's Office did not issue a criminal charge to Damond Watts, 38, of Milwaukee, and recommended that the case be handled as a deferred prosecution.
Charges were filed Monday for misconduct in public office, a class I felony with a penalty of up to three years and six months imprisonment.
Media coverage of the lack of prosecution resulted in the District Attorney's Office reconsidering the case, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
Watts resigned during the theft investigation.
