MILWAUKEE - Just over a week old, the new baby gorilla is already attracting quite the crowd at the Milwaukee County Zoo.  The baby is named Kassiu, which is a combination of mom and dad's name.

"The father is looking really angry right now," said Timothy Schultz

Zoo caretakers are also acting like proud parents.  There are only about 10 gorillas born in the U.S. every year.

"We've only had one other birth here in Milwaukee in 1992.  It's been a long time coming, yes," said gorilla caretaker, Claire Richard.

Long-time Milwaukee County residents still reminisce about Sampson, and are excited for a new generation of gorillas.  Michael Schultz remembers watching Sampson stare down crowds.

"Sampson was around for so many years, it's really hard to to him. I think something like this is really cute and exciting," said Michael Schultz.

"We know this baby will bring that much excitement to the zoo.  Sampson was all by himself and was one animal.  We are going to have a whole family," Richard said.

Depending on how mom and baby are doing, you should be able to come to the zoo and meet the family.
