Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy injured in highway crash
MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy is in the hospital after his squad car was hit on the highway, the Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday afternoon.
It happened just before 3:00 p.m. near Highway 41/45 and Park Place. The Deputy was on the scene of a rollover crash when another driver lost control, hit a car on the 145 on-ramp, hit the driver's side of the squad car, then hit a fire engine before coming to a stop.
The Deputy was transported to Froedtert Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver in the rollover crash was not injured.
"We've had six officers hit since December 1st. Five of which have been relatively high speed incidents on the freeway system," explained Captain Daniel Hughes.
Hughes tells TODAY'S TMJ4 the deputy injured in the crash was also hit in a massive highway pileup in December.
He urges drivers to slow down and stay alert when road conditions deteriorate.
"I think that if we are mindful of what it takes to get the job done out there and everybody has a part of the responsibility to drive safe, we'll get through it," Hughes said.
