MILWAUKEE - In the wake of a federal ruling declaring Wisconsin's same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele announced that the Courthouse would remain open late Friday night to allow for same-sex marriages.

“I have been waiting decades for this day to finally arrive and we won’t make loving couples wait longer than they want to to get married,” Abele said.

Abele will personally pay for any overtime costs associated with keeping the Courthouse open.

Late Friday evening, Abele announced the Courthouse would also be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday to allow for more marriages.

Couples interested in getting married should use the entrance off of Wells Street, between 9th and 10th Streets.
