Mayor calls for state help with pothole repairs
MILWAUKEE - We cannot avoid them.
City crews are struggling to keep up with patching them.
As long as this roller coaster of winter weather continues, the pothole plague will continue to spread.
"Terrible," said Milwaukee resident Andrea Brown. "I mean, they're tearing up my car, my wheels, my shocks."
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and other local leaders are calling for the state to push part its multi-million dollar transportation surplus to municipal street repairs.
"Bad roads. Rough winter. We need help," Barrett said. "We are asking the state to use that money on local roads."
The City of Milwaukee has received a thousand requests and counting for pothole repair this winter, Barrett said.
State lawmakers are considering a bill that would funnel that transportation surplus to state highway projects, not neighborhood streets.
