Mayor Tom Barrett presents new budget
MILWAUKEE - Mayor Tom Barrett will present next year's budget to the Common Council Tuesday morning.
Economic development is a key factor in the proposed $1.44 billion city budget. Mayor Barrett wants the city to keep moving on development projects like Century City and the Brewery. He also plans to continue efforts with Northwestern Mutual, which plans to begin construction on a new downtown tower next fall. The company hopes to add about 1,900 jobs in that location by 2030.
Mayor Barrett is also expected to ask for additional resources for the police department, as well as setting aside $11 million to renovate thousands of foreclosed homes owned by the city so they can be sold.
