Mayor Barrett hospitalized after long run
Was celebrating with a 20 kilometer birthday jog
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett remained at Froedtert Hospital Monday morning after completing a 20 kilometer organized run at the Pettit National Ice Center.
According to a news release from the City of Milwaukee, Barrett was treated for dehydration and other signs of over-exertion. Doctors recommended the overnight stay at the hospital.
Barrett had been celebrating his 60th birthday with the run. The mayor does run regularly, but Sundays run was much longer than his usual jog.
A spokesperson said doctors are keeping him there as a precautionary and will be running some tests. Barrett is expected to return home at some point Monday.
