Mayor Barrett approves police overtime after recent shootings
MILWAUKEE - Mayor Tom Barrett has approved police overtime after an "outbreak" of crime in the city over the past few days. Eighteen people have been killed or wounded in shootings since Friday.
Barrett said he has approved spending of $500,000 for the overtime, and is asking the state of Wisconsin to match the amount, according to the Journal Sentinel.
Four shootings occurred on Tuesday within two hours of each other, including two apparent robbery attempts. Two people are currently in the hospital with life threatening injuries from those shootings.
The department's officers took home $14 million in overtime pay last year.
