'Mayfair Collection' shopping center opens Thursday
WAUWATOSA - Many have been eagerly waiting for the Mayfair Collection to open, they came hoping the stores were open Wednesday, instead of Thursday’s grand opening.
“Hoping, yeah I did, but I’ll be back tomorrow,” said shopper Kelsey Caldwell.
The developer explains while this has been years in the making, it’s just the start of development in the area and will attract more business to the area.
“If you look at the merchants like Nordstrom Rack, and Saks, it’s their only units in metro Milwaukee,” said Tim Blum, Vice President for HAS Real Estate.
“We’re happy to bring them a local store that’s more convenient,” says Nordstrom spokesperson Naomi Tobis.
While shoppers tell us they won’t have to drive to Chicago anymore to visit some of these stores, Wauwatosa’s Mayor tells us she’s excited for the economic impact.
“This is the start of a whole retail development and really bringing an area that has been under utilized and the property value was a minimal to and extraordinary level,” said Mayor Kathy Ehley.
The development brought in 500 construction and full-time permanent jobs.
“It’s exciting for Wauwatosa, but what I’m proud of is it will have a big impact on SE Wisconsin and on the state of Wisconsin,” Ehley said.
Even those early bird shoppers who came too early tell me they’ll be back for what’s expected to be “Black Friday like” shopping.
“I thought this was overdue that they hadn’t built something like this before,” Caldwell said.
Whole Foods will open early in 2016, and Thursday developers will announce more stores and restaurants coming to the site.
