MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University's new president doesn't officially take over until July 1, but he met with new students and families preparing to make the transition to college life Sunday night.

Michael Lovell is making his own transition from UW-Milwaukee's chancellor to Marquette's first non-jesuit president.

He said that he sees his mission as not only helping Marquette, but also helping the city.
"...[I want to] really engage Marquette in the community and that's putting resources and talents we have on this campus to solve many of the problems we face in Milwaukee and help this city grow," Lovell said.
Lovell said he is already working to fill a number of key leadership positions on campus including hiring a new athletic director.
