MILWAUKEE -- For the first time in Marquette's 132 year history, a layman is expected to become the university's next president.

According to JSOnline, Mike Lovell, University of Milwaukee's current chancellor, will be announced the next president of Marquette Wednesday. Lovell is a Catholic and is expected to replace Father Scott Pilarz who resigned after two years on the job last fall.
Lovell would be the first layman to oversee the school. It's an appointment made possible by a 2011 change in the university's bylaws.
