Marquette University elects new president
MILWAUKEE - Michael Lovell was introduced as Marquette's new president to a packed room. He explained his decision to move across town was about opportunity, not disappointment at UWM.
"This was truly a decision that was based on the ability for me to practice my faith in my professional life," Lovell said.
He acknowledged the high-paying position he needs to fill right away, the head basketball coach.
"I will get someone who will be a successful basketball coach and lead us to great things on the court, but also hold the values of Marquette and the community."
Students are happy to have a new leader to guide the university.
"It made me a little nervous with all the instability, but I think it's awesome we finally have our new president," student Emma Wallo said.
Lovell will officially take over on August 1st, but said he will get up to speed immediately on the search for a new coach.
