Mandela's influence was felt worldwide, including in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE – People around the world are mourning the loss of Nelson Mandela.
The former South African president died yesterday at the age of 95. The anti-apartheid icon had an effect on many political leaders, including Milwaukee alderman Joe Davis. Davis is an honorary consul to South Africa.
It's a sad day, but it's a rejoiceful day,” Davis said.
“We know that his legacy will live on with all of us as we live our lives.”
There will be public and private memorial services for Mandela over the next week before he's taken to his final resting place in his hometown of Qunu.
President Obama has ordered all flags at government buildings to be lowered to half staff to honor the former president.
