Man arrested after scaling fence, charging at airplane
PHOENIX, AZ -- Airport officials in Phoenix are trying to figure out why a man decided to scale an eight-foot barbed-wire fence and run out on the tarmac.
Surveillance video shows Robert Bump running and flailing his arms at a plane. The airport tower spotted him and alerted the pilot who then turned off the engines before he reached the airplane.
“If you are willing to scale a fence of that height with barbed wire knowing that you will be immediately caught on the other side, that's not a risk a lot of people would want to take," said Deputy Aviation Director Deb Ostreicher.
Phoenix police eventually took him into custody, and say passengers aboard the plane were never in danger.
Police say he has a long history of arrests and strange behavior.
