Man accused of killing 5-year-old while driving drunk in court Tuesday
KENOSHA - "We really just want to thank our community, our family and friends because they have continued to support us through this."
Mother Kirsten McCollum explains she doesn't want to talk about the man who's accused of killing her bright 5 year-old son, Bailey. She does want the community to remember her cheerful boy.
"They are praying for us every single day and that's what's helping us through," McCollum said.
Bailey's sister, Madison, was driving the two home when court records say 29 year-old Marcus Thornton drove drunk, ran a stop sign and smashed right into the McCollums.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators found a 6 pack of Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade in Thornton's car, and when asked how much he had to drink, he responded, "way too much."
Thornton, in his jailhouse uniform, walked in with a boot on his left foot. He sat, expressionless, throughout the hearing. He pleaded not guilty to all 11 counts.
The McCollum's all wore buttons with Bailey's picture with a sunflower, his favorite.
"Thank everybody for their prayers and thoughts and love," Kirsten McCollum said.
