MILWAUKEE - This is not a gimmick, but bystanders did see a colorful police presence after an early morning shooting.

Officers report a 36-year-old man was shot in the back just after 6:00 a.m. at 29th and Wells on Milwaukee's west side.

The man survived, and is expected to speak to police at the hospital.

Back at the crime scene, officers literally rolled out a change in crime scene tape: in addition to the yellow tape you might recognize, cops unwrapped red tape to surround the immediate area where evidence might be found.

"Whenever you have a shooting, you have a lot of chaos," explains Lt. Chris Moews.

"There's people coming and going and there are witnesses we have to identify. This will help the officers identify that area."
