Local woman makes large donation to start scholarship program at Sussex school
SUSSEX - A six-figure donation came during a back to school assembly, and was a surprise to both students and the teachers.
Marjorie Wrezic was overjoyed to help the school that has made an impact on her grandchildren.
“I wanted to give kids an opportunity that maybe wouldn’t have it otherwise,” Wrezic said.
The Mequon woman's grandchildren are current and former Sussex Hamilton High School students. They told her about the impact teachers here have made in their lives, and she decided to donate around $400,000.
What makes this gift so unusual is the fact Wrezic never attended school here. She decided to make the donation after her granddaughters told her what a great place it was to learn.
One of her grandchildren’s teachers was stunned by the unexpected gift.
“It's amazing people give back like that, it's a pleasure to work with the grandchildren of those type of people,” said teacher Dave Hartman.
This lasting wish from Marjorie Wrezic will change dozens of students’ lives here and in the future.
“I’ve wanted this for a long time and it's finally come to pass,” she said.
Administrators expect the money to supply about 50 scholarships. The program will begin next spring.
