Local race fans react to Tony Stewart case
SLINGER - Local racing fans are reacting to the news of the death of a young driver in New York State.
Twenty-year-old Keven Ward was run over by racing star Tony Stewart Saturday night when the Nascar racer's car struck Ward's on the track during the nighttime race.
Witnesses said Ward then got out of his car and appeared to confront Stewart before he was hit and killed.
Todd Thelen runs the Slinger Speedway and said drivers are known for being emotional people.
"Sometimes they think someone else did it on purpose and they get uptight and they want to do something about it and unfortunately this ended bad." Thelen said.
Police are still investigating but said it's unlikely criminal charges will be filed.
Legal experts say Stewart could face a civil suit.
