Local family returns after witnessing canonization in Rome
BROOKFIELD -- Randy and Kay Freeman once traveled to Rome before, but that was as tourists.
This trip, the retired couple chose to make a pilgrimage to the home of the Catholic Church.
"I spent a lot of money on a vacation so I can cry everyday," quipped Randy Freeman to TODAY'S TMJ4.
The Freemans joined several dozen Wisconsin families and church leaders to Rome for the canonization of two former pontiffs, John XXIII and John Paul II.
"That was part of our decision," added Kay. "When can we go and see two popes we lived with be canonized saints? We have to do this trip."
Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki led the trip, and the Freemans claimed he was the best tour guide ever.
"We are so glad that he spoke Italian!"
