Lawmakers want say if Wisconsin creates exchange
MADISON - Wauwatosa State Senator Leah Vukmir agrees with Governor Walker's decision not to set up Wisconsin's own exchange as part of the new federal healthcare law. But she wants to make sure that if any future governor makes a different decision, the state legislature has a seat at the table.
"There is so much uncertainty at the federal level, and what we learned from the process is that the legislature really was not part of that process," Vukmir said.
Vukmir and Big Bend State Representative David Craig are circulating a bill now that would require the Governor to involve the legislature. They plan to introduce the bill in the coming weeks.
"We believe that if there is any time down the road that any elected officials in the State of Wisconsin should want to create an exchange, that the legislature should be a part of that process," Vukmir said.
