GLENDALE- On-and-off for 17 years, Willy Porter and Steven Klieber played side by side.

"Its hard to go forward without him," said Klieber.

Klieber, a local bassist, played around the world with the Willy Porter Band and others. Those that knew him best say he possed a unique voice with his instrument.

News of his tragic death has fans and musicians sharing their memories on Facebook.

"My music is completely different because of him - my life is completely different because of him."

Saturday, plumes of smoke and orange flames could be seen shooting out of the roof of Klieber's home. The blaze was so intense it would take firefighters nearly 30 minutes to contain it. In the living room, firefighters made the grim discovery, finding the 49 year old lifeless.

"I always thought I would get to work with him again."

Even though Steve is gone, Willie and fellow musicans plan to continue Steve's legacy.

"We are starting a non-profit scholarship in his name that hopefully will give an annual award to the most promising bass student in Wisconsin."

Steve leaves behind his mother, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
