VILLAGE OF SILVER LAKE - An assistant fire chief has a message that worries homeowners. He says his department does not have the manpower to fight a fire.

The chief and five others resigned on Monday, leaving the department with just six active members.

On Saturday, a barn went up in flames.

"The department missed a mutual aid call this past weekend," explains Acting Chief Roger Pattie. "There wasn't anybody in town."

Pattie is concerned it will happen again, if the village board doesn't sign an agreement with the nearby Town of Salem.
