Jurors inspect concrete panel that killed teen
MILWAUKEE - Jared Kellner died after a 13-ton cement panel fell off of a parking garage. Thursday, jurors got to inspect that panel for themselves.
One by one, jurors stepped off a bus and into a shed that houses the cement panel. For about 15 minutes, they walked around and got to see the size of the panel, and the way it was held together.
Back at the courthouse, and on the stand, an engineer described what he saw the night of June 24, 2010.
“The only thing I could observe was his foot, out from the panel,” said John Goetter, Graef Vice President.
There was an emotional moment in court when Goetter explained what went through his head as he got to the chaotic scene.
“I felt, there’s this kid who didn’t deserve to die underneath the panel.”
Goetter explained the panels weren’t attached to the garage on four sides, as the plan called for, but just two.
“We were only able to investigate 4 or 5 panels, and those were all installed incorrectly,” Goetter said.
