MILWAUKEE - A rise in the number of motorcycle crashes was reported over Labor Day weekend, during Harley-Davidson's 110th anniversary celebration.
Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services tracked the number of motorcycle crashes transported to the trauma center at Froedtert Hospital from Aug. 27 to Sept. 1. During that time, a total of 28 patients were transported to the trauma center.
Of those patients:
12 were transported from the city of Milwaukee by MC EMS med units
5 were transported from suburban areas by MC EMS med units
2 were transported via Flight for Life
5 via out of county EMS agencies
4 via private EMS
"Over the last few years Milwaukee County averaged about 0.79 motorcycle crashes per day during the month of August," said the MC EMS. "Over the six days of the Harley event the average was 4.9 per day.
"The hospitals and EMS systems work together to ensure they are prepared to treat patients during big events like the Harley-Davidson anniversary weekend."
