MILWAUKEE -- Some people did choose to move to the Third Ward for some excitement, but this was not it.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is just two months into a two-year project to overhaul the Hoan Bridge and the I-794 corridor from the river to the lakefront.

That work, which includes heavy lifting and blasting - must continue nearly 24 hours a day, according to project managers.

The construction, however, is waking up several residents who live in the Third Ward.

"It's horrible. It shakes the building," laments Mary Margaret Jurik. "No one could imagine the noise I hear at night."

DOT spokesman Michael Pyritz explained to TODAY'S TMJ4 that safety and traffic concerns force engineers to work at night. The heavy lifting requires shutting down the roads underneath 794 - the same roads that provide access to the Third Ward business district.

Pyritz also promised that the DOT warns residents before any big part of the projects that will make the most noise.
