NEW BERLIN – Police arrested a suspected shoplifter after a high-speed chase early Sunday that ended in a crash.

Police tried to pull a van over after they received a call about a robbery around 2 A.M. The suspect had reportedly stolen cigarettes from a convenience store in Mukwonago.

At one point the vehicle reached speeds well over 100 miles per hour. Police deployed stop sticks to blow the tires of the van.

The driver crashed into the median at the Hale Interchange and then jumped from the highway down to a marsh area below. Police eventually caught the driver.
