MILWAUKEE - More than one hundred people turned out to plea for peace on Milwaukee's North side Sunday.

Residents who live in the Franklin Heights neighborhood banded together for a "Heal The Hood" block party.

It was hosted by Alderwoman Milele Coggs and the "Heal The Hood" organization.

Organizers say they want neighbors to come together in a positive way after a rash of violence in the area.

"It's not always about being reactionary, sometimes we have to be preventative." Coggs said.

There were musical performances, food stands and other vendors.

The group plans on holding similar events in other parts of the city this summer.
