Hartford teen's death investigated as possible homicide
HARTFORD - A young college student is dead and now we are learning it may have been homicide.
The Hartford community is looking for answers as police remain tight lipped.
A search warrant says investigators found a mark on the victim’s neck indicating something may have been tied around her neck.
“Of course this is a great tragedy,” said Hartford resident Mark Beske.
Like a lot of people in this small town, he wants to know what happened to Jessie Blodgett.
The 19-year old was found dead inside her Hartford home one week ago. Since then very little has been said about how she died.
“I don’t think it’s really about fear in the community. I think its more what’s happening,” said Beske.
Blodgett was an actor in a local play and arrived home around 1 AM after a cast party Sunday night and talked with her mom before going to bed. It was her mother who checked on her 11 hours later and found her dead.
The search warrant says a detective observed “a ligature mark on the victim’s neck” but nothing was found on or near the body. The detective was unable to determine what caused the marks. The cause of death of death is still unknown.
“It’s great sadness. We loved her very much,” said Jerry Becker.
Becker directed the play and is a lawyer in Washington County. He knows the cast and others are anxious to find out what happened to Jessie but urges everyone not to fill in the gaps by speculating.
“Let law enforcement do what they do so very well in this county. Let the district attorney lead the investigation and make those gaps filled in their right time,” said Becker.
The search warrant also indicated investigators have interviewed a person of interest, who we are not naming. They are looking at Jessie’s cell phone records and Facebook page for possible clues.
