MILTON -- Harmony Elementary School Principal Jeanne Smith in is on paid leave following reports that she inappropriately dealt with a second grade autistic boy.

Two weeks ago, the boy was having a meltdown, so teachers brought him to a "safe room."
Two aides told Janesville police that the principal physically restrained the boy.
"You have to reach a certain level to reach probable cause that a crime was committed and that's the standard we go by. That's what we consider and it just wasn't there," said Janesville police Lieutenant Keith Lawver.
Police looked into it and determined the principal shouldn't face any criminal charges.
Smith is on paid leave until the Milton School District wraps up its investigation.
