Green Bay restaurant owner dead after car accident
GREEN BAY -- A longtime Green Bay restaurant owner has died after his vehicle ended up in a river while he was trying to back up.
Press-Gazette Media reports the vehicle was fully submerged in the East River when emergency responders arrived at about 5 p.m. Friday.
Steve Rank said he suspects his father, 74-year-old George Rank, accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while parking the van to enter Karen's Pub.
George Rank owns Al's Hamburger Shop in downtown Green Bay, which his father opened in 1934.
Steve Rank joined other employees at Al's on Saturday to operate the landmark restaurant as normal, in honor of his father's memory. He says he was the greatest dad and will be sorely missed by the whole city.
